Colleen MacNeal, LMHC
Colleen MacNeal is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Before private practice, she worked at Four Winds Hospital as a therapist on the adult inpatient unit providing individual, family and group therapy, as well as leading DBT skills training groups. She is also trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy, a model that helps people recognize the different parts that make up their consciousness and helps to resolve inner conflict (for example: “part of me wants to stay, part of me wants to go”…). She recognizes that each client has unique strengths and needs and modifies her approach accordingly. Her trainings in psychodrama, mindfulness, and Trauma Workshops with Bessel van der Kolk also influence her work. Colleen has particular interest in working with adults and adolescents struggling with codependency, self-esteem issues, trauma, depression and anxiety.
“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” – Maya Angelou
As a counselor, I strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where people may explore their own inner workings with curiosity, not judgment. Within this framework one can bring greater awareness to self-defeating beliefs and behaviors that may be causing pain or keeping them stuck. Through this process one can develop a healthier relationship with their emotions, their environment, other people, and most importantly, with themselves.
Colleen accepts Fidelis insurance and private payments.
