Winter Solstice has passed, along with the other festivals of light, and midwinter is upon us. Using carefully chosen poetry, we will explore the soul stirrings happening within us as we move through the shadowy blue days of winter. We will pay special attention to what images and sounds within the poem we are drawn to and to what sleeping parts of ourselves want to awaken and become more fully alive. Metaphor in Greek means to transport or carry across, and poetry, which is full of metaphor, can help transport us to new levels of meaning and awareness in our lives.
No experience with poetry or writing is necessary, although there will be an opportunity to write. (Note: This is not a typical poetry or writing workshop and we will not be analyzing or interpreting. We will instead be feeling and experiencing the imagery and music of the poem, however it lands up on us).
Susan has an extensive background in both psychology and poetry, having worked as a counselor in higher education for several years and as a facilitator of poetry exploration workshops in hospitals, yoga studios, nursing homes, and retreat centers. Her poetry has been published in many journals and anthologies and she is working on a full-length book of poetry.
