Rocky Bonsal, LCSW-R

Licensed Clinical Social Worker
EXTENSION: Call 518-807-6976

Rocky Bonsal is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over thirty years of experience. He previously worked with adults with developmental disabilities and mental health concerns. Rocky works with clients from many walks of life and takes a person-centered and positive psychology approach. He believes we get into traps of thinking that cause distress and suffering, which we can change with awareness and openness to new ways of understanding ourselves and others.

Rocky discovered his passion for helping after his therapist said one day, “You should be a therapist!” Rocky received his Master of Social Work degree from New York University. He uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques as well as psychoeducation, insight-oriented theory, and mindfulness techniques. Most recently, he’s welcomed Polyvagal Theory into his work to help build awareness and friendship with our nervous systems. Rocky works with trauma, anxiety, depression, sexuality issues, and disabilities, among others. He has worked with and welcomes artists, those on the autism spectrum, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Rocky has experience as a sexuality educator and working with men’s issues.

Rocky says: I believe in partnering with my clients through the initial phases of therapy to discover the sources of today’s lived problems. This often gives us a roadmap for discovering together the routes to new ways of thinking and moving in the world. I deeply appreciate clients who commit and face the sometimes-painful work of therapy, knowing they are working toward a better day, a better life. It is always an honor to be a witness and a guide along that journey.
